Not a maple with a leaf like that, think the Canadian flag, but not an ash, or tree of heaven, or any of the others I can think of either. Do you think it is a native or an ornamental?

Being simple and opposite-leaved it rules out Ash or Laburnum. Sycamores over here have fuzzy bur-type fruits/seeds. At least the Platanus species.

Yes, I had wondered if they really were simple leaves, I thought it was only lornicera which had the opposite leaves, and it's not that, maybe I am wrong. Look at this picture of Box elder leaves https://www.ecrater.co.uk/p/3827862...MI-ZKUgYyr-AIVjdrVCh0Hjw21EAQYAyABEgLXd_D_BwE. The general habit of the tree looked right as well. It's not a tree I am familiar with and I am not sure where it grows normally, but that might not be helpful, of the 350 species growing wild in Britain only about 35 are native, I guess the same sort of human interference happens in the US though you haven't had as long at it.
