I have to admit I haven't done hours of research but I cant think of a plant to fit my application.

It is right near the corner of the house and a drain spout comes down and travels toward the camera for about 5 feet. I need to find an annual that will be a dominant mound backdrop for the full year (about 4 feet tall). The cosmos were just too wispy the entire time as you can see.

If you have any suggestions please let me know. I have thought of Zinnia (too common for this spot), Osteospermum (don't think it gets tall enough), or maybe some type of permanent ornamental grass.

I think ornamental grass will be out of place. Maybe try everlastings. It's not as wispy. I think it would create a nice balance as far as height.

How about some type of flowering ginger? They are tall and come and the ones with variegated leaves will still add color when the plants are not in bloom. Why an annual as apposed to a perennial?

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I have looked at all of the plants people have suggested. I am still making my mind up exactly, but I know these are plants I want to try somewhere.

Funny you say that. This is actually the first annual only bed I have ever had. All of our current beds are filled with perennials and I need to learn more about annuals. Really just fun.

With that being said I am thinking of going with a Shasta Daisy that has a double or ruffled bloom. I think that would be a great neutral white backdrop when they matured.
