In the UK we are not noted for our growing climate. It is impossible to be precise, but we have around 35 trees which are native to the country, the reason for the imprecision is that people started importing new species very early of, for example the Romans brought us poplar trees, probably for the sake of the bees. That has been going on ever since, and the trees have escaped their initial cultivation, until there are now around 350 different species self seeding and growing naturally here.
For me the lesson is 'You never know, give it a try'.
