Seven years ago this new Sorbus didn't have much shape, it was mostly all trunk and therefore the growth was all at the top.
We bought it in Bents and it was the only one they had at the time.

So I chopped the top off and over the following years encouraged it to grow outwards more than upwards and partially corrected the sharp bend it had which would have taken it over the pagoda.

The effort has rewarded us as it now looks far more attractive

and it produces a lot of berries at this time of the year.

Our lollypop acer in the front garden is looking quite sorry for itself at the moment and will shortly be pruned with me taking about a foot off all the way round and off the top, to make it more manageable.

Lovely, I can`t grow any of the Rowans here - they just don`t seem to like the chalk  We have to make do with other trees that do.

Does your maple give you any nice fall color or does it just drop brownish-yellowish leaves. What species is it?

Thanks for the interest.
There's no nice change in colour, it goes from this in September

To like this in November as it did last year and every year.

This little one near the back fence in our back garden, makes a bit of an effort, around now, as it did last year.

But I've no idea of the varieties of either.
