I would like to start growing my own sweetgrass plants, but I don't know much about them, and I haven't had much luck with trying to grow them so far. Can anyone give me any tips as far as climate, soil, and sunlight that would help? Thanks!
Sweetgrass likes sunlight, maybe part shade. Needs regular watering. Does not do good in dry conditions. Preferable to a rich, moist soil. Does not do well in heavy clay or sandy soil.
Many species of Vernal Grass (Anthoxanthum, including Hierochloe) are prized for their sweet scent, due to the presence of high levels of coumarin. Holy Grass (Anthoxanthum nitens, formerly Hierochloe odorata) and Vernal Sweet Grass (Anthoxanthum odoratum) are the two species most commonly cultivated. They are of easy culture, growing best in full sun to part shade with regular water and fertile, well-draining soil
