Afternoon chaps!

Hope you are all having a great weekend. I just wanted to share on here my great success with growing the Sungold variety here in the UK and indeed quite far north in Edinburgh:-

Honestly picking off and getting about one of these bowls every day now. Not sure what we're going to do with them all - I guess I'll have to use them for pasta sauce...

Anyway, just wanted to put this here in case anyone's searching re this variety in future. They have worked so well here compared with my other efforts - Just normal varieties but I did Moneymakers last year and also have Crimson Crush tomatoes on the go at the moment.

My feel is that the Crimson Crush have a slightly better flavour than the Moneymakers did. However, I've not really had as much yield as I did from the Moneymakers last year. So I probably wouldn't do them again going forward.

But the Sungolds will be a definite in future! Although maybe only a couple of plants are needed...

Those look amazing for container grown plants.

Hi Everyone

So that's the end of year two growing for me. Hope everyone's efforts went well.

For me, these Sungolds were an incredible winner. After the storm did it's best to take down my little grow house (miraculously survived at a 45° angle! 😂) I decided to call it a day. But anyway, I thought it would be funny to show this photo of one in one of the containers before I cut them down:-

I'd missed that shoot there but what a plant! You can see the leaves are starting to die off elsewhere but I was cutting suckers from out the bottom of the pot there all year! Incredibly vigorous plant with a tremendous yield, especially for where we are... Anyway definitely going with them again next year.

My Crimson Crush were not as good really at all. Well at least potted. The container ones gave me less fruit than the Moneymakers had in exactly the same position last year.

However, I had a couple of leftovers and just put them in the ground at the front - which is not really the best for growing, west / North west-ish facing and we're a semi, so light doesn't really hit until afternoon.

Anyway, they were later producing but we did get some great tomatoes in the end. Just weighed this one:-

Not sure how good that is but interestingly they were miles bigger than the ones grown in the containers!

Anyway, cheers folks - I'm sure I'll be back in the spring clueless about something else...
