live in Delaware, Zone 7A. I just planted some Pineberry and Tristen Purple Strawberry plants. I have a few questions:

1. Are these June Bearing or Day Neutral varieties?
2. Should I deadhead them, taking them down to just above the crown?
3. Should I cover them with mulch for the winter?

A few notes:

1. The soil has been fertilized.
2. I’m aware that I should avoid letting fruit grow on them next year to allow the plant to grow stronger.
3. The garden is currently mulched, however the plants are not covered.

Thanks

I would think it may be too late to recognize neutral varieties this late in the year. As far as preparing for Winter, I would mulch to protect the plant roots from hard freezes. Don't forgot to water your strawberry plant roots during the Winter if you run into drought. You can leave the plants uncovered and expose them to a few early frosts to help prepare them. When a hard freeze hits, cover them heavy with mulch. Thanks for the post friend, and sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the response. What do you mean by "to recognize neutral varieties?"
Day-neutral strawberries produces fruit through the whole growing season regardless of day lenght and plant age as long as the temps are within the flowering range. Post some photos if have time. Thank you for the post friend.

I have no idea what those varieties are. Cut back the leaves and mulch. I would pick the berries next year. I have runners that I potted up mid summer that are producing berries already. They look plenty healthy to me. I've watched videos (Farmer Dre) where they plant plugs every year and harvest that same year. Then replace the plugs the next year.
