I'm brand new to growing food, I'm very much a flower gardener. I mentioned wanting to grow strawberries and my incredibly thoughtful boyfriend bought me a Mr. Stacky and about 50 bare root Ozark strawberry plants. Here's the Mr. Stacky listing on Amazon:

My first concern is moisture distribution from top to bottom. One of the comments said they filled them with 2/3 hummus and 1/3 sand. Anybody have any experience with these things? I'm also thinking after I do one thorough water I can stick a Plant Nanny in the top and rely on gravity to water the rest.

I really want to use my gift, so any ideas for how to make this work would be much appreciated.

I would recommend giving the individual pockets some water too.

No experience with those planters...They do look kind of cool but I also would worry about the individual pockets getting enough water, and nutrients too, given the limited amount of soil.
