I have a cantaloupe patch in the backyard that I planted just out of a whim (I call it experiment). The vines had flowers and I thought it would end with flowers. But later on some flowers turned into fruits. I had already harvested the first cantaloupe that is just a bit bigger than a jackstone ball. There are 2 fruits in the vine that are a little bigger and another that is really big of a standard size.

Is there a reason why those cantaloupes are dwarfs? The seeds came from a standard sized and very sweet cantaloupe.

Probably the fruit you obtained the seeds from was a hybrid. When planting seeds from a hybrid variety you never know what you will end up with. Some will be true and others not. It's all in the DNA
