Any ideas on what is causing our laurels to be yellowing and dropping leaves? Thanks for any suggestions or feedback.

Greetings, welcome to the Forums.

Some of your English Cherry-Laurels (Prunus laurocerasus) have lost many leaves higher up, but still have healthy foliage near the base. Others look healthy all over. My first thought is a watering issue. What is the watering history and drainage like for these shrubs? Also how long ago were these planted? It looks like you pruned some branches back. Is that because they were leafless?

They were planted in the fall of 2020, as little one gallon plants. The drainage is great in this part of our yard but it could be a water issue as we had trouble with the sprinkler near the ones that are struggling. We did prune back a few of the leafless branches. We are now in our rainy season so they will be getting plenty of water until next summer.
Would you prime them back further or watch and wait?

If they were drought-stressed this summer, that could explain the situation. If so, winter rains should begin to solve the problem. I think 'watch and wait' is a good idea.
