Looking for a type of shrub. Zone 5 on west side of house. Want a shrub that only goes to 2’-3’ high to 2’-3’ wide or can be trimmed to that. Something that does not cover the ground.

Hi,

Here are some great options for Zone 5 that fit your size and shape requirements:

  1. Boxwood (Buxus): These can easily be trimmed to stay in the 2’-3’ range and maintain a neat, compact form.
  2. Dwarf Spirea (Spiraea japonica ‘Little Princess’ or ‘Magic Carpet’): Grows naturally to about 2-3 feet and offers summer blooms.
  3. Dwarf Fothergilla (Fothergilla gardenii): Grows to about 2-3 feet, offers white spring flowers and stunning fall foliage.
  4. Dwarf Korean Lilac (Syringa meyeri ‘Palibin’): Stays compact and offers fragrant blooms in spring.
  5. Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa): Low-maintenance, with long-lasting yellow flowers, and easily stays within the desired height and width.
These are all low-spreading and won’t cover the ground!

Thanks!
