Should I mow the lawn at this time?

Hi All,
I am in UK and it is a bit dry season in here. I watered the lawn a couple of times during the hottest days (around midnight to reduce evaporation).
I have noticed the lawn is turning yellow. Not all but some.

However my question is about these flower/seed stems that pop up around this time.
I have noticed the growth of the lawn (leaves) has kind of stopped I reckon to prioritize the growth of flowers.
Or perhaps I cut it too short at one time and it didn't recover well from that.

I can also see some white and yellow flowers popping up here and there. This looks cool actually. Not like a desired lawn but something in between a lawn and a low meadow.

I could mow the lawn but I can wait I don't know how long before they drop the seeds so I can mow it.

Ideally, not. I was reading Francis Pryor talking about the difference keeping the grass long had made to its resilience, in his book A Fenland Garden. Longer grass retains moisture better, so if you’re able to wait, do. Also, if you can keep it a bit longer, it will cope better next time we have a heat wave.

We struggle as 1) our lawn is very old and not even, so bits grow at different rates 2) were in rural Suffolk, and get ragwort, and back on to a field of ponies who sit poisonous too.

I haven't mowed the lawn since then and left it like that for the stems with seed pods to mature. I think I have to wait till August for them to drop the seeds. The lawn did not grow much in this time. Perhaps it's due to the drought or me mowing it too low or both
