I have some 5 gallon pots with a gallon reservoir. I have found I’m watering about half gallon everyday.

I was told not to let the Reservoirs go dry. The soil has been moist and they really like.

I had it in my head I could leave them but it isn’t working out that way. Oh the humidity has been way down like 25 - 30% .

If you have a gallon reservoir and you use 1/2 gallon per day you're probably ok to 3-4 days without stressing your plants. Of course mulching the pot can slow water consumption. How do you know when the reservoir is full?

I have a drain hole . It was a bugger feeding from the top and watering.

I’ve found to feed and water just a little bit.

Like today yesterday I fed them. Then today they had about 4 inches of water so I just gave them a little.

I’m not worried about stressing. I’m sure I’m good but I was told not to let the reservoir go dry or basically I would have to reprime it by watering it from the top.

Had one guy try it and said he had a problem with Root Rot. I’m thinking he didn’t have it set up right. I’ve been using this for 3 months.

I have used terracotta flower pots with a bit of silicone sealant in the hole at the bottom, then buried to the rim.

I’m using my head for a hat rack.

If the soil is moist at the top then there is no reason to have to water it from the top if I let the reservoir go dry.

That is the same as I’m doing but I’m using a gallon Jug but he is saying he can let it basically dry out. I was told not to let the Reservoir dry out. ????

The 2 bucket system helps to keep the lower soil from going aerobic since extra water will drain out the overflow hole.
