After 20+ years of drinking coffee I recently switched to decaf. I was expecting to have some kind of negative effect but I don't really find any difference aside from taking a little longer for my brain to wake up. I also use honey as a replacement for sugar but have been doing that for years.

black strap molasses in coffee would be interesting lol, I've never tried that. Basil tea sounds interesting also. I think I'd have to put some dehydrated cranberries or something in it to perk it up a bit.

I'm a decaf person now and do not miss the regular coffee at all.

My morning drink of choice however is green tea...good stuff.

I don't understand, white sugar is purified sucrose. Blackstrap molasses has been boiled, but it is still about half sucrose, but you can have one and not the other?
Is it the other half, they say it is good for a bunch of other things , like iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus, but I can't see why they would negate the sucrose.

that is what I was thinking lol. But no doubt the black strap is most likely the better choice over refined sugar.. slightly. If nothing else it would help clean out the insides lol.

I feed a lot of deer in fall and winter, I add molasses to the feed because its cheap in bulk from the farm supply store and the deer love it. But you can trail their poo for miles because it makes their system very "regular" ..for lack of a better word to use lol

Roasted dandelion and chicory root are good substitutes for coffee, as they have no caffeine, taste good, and confer health benefits. I use monkfruit extract to sweeten my coffee. I used to use monkfruit sugar but found out erythritol can cause blood clotting.

This you really do not want, I almost lost my left leg to blood clots and I frequently see one legged guys when I go to the clinic. Also the operation causes so much swelling to the bottom half of the leg they have to make a long, deep, cut either side to allow it to expand without splitting, and that took an age to heal, and still hurts me now.
Does the extract not contain the same stuff as the sugar, if maybe not as concentrated? Do be careful, people often make wild and unsubstantiated claims for their pet likes, have a read of Ben Goldacre's book 'Bad Science', quite revealing.

Thank you. 😊
The extract contains no erythritol, which is what they use to make it resemble sugar.
The extract is a powder. Monks in Tibet have used the monkfruit plant for a thousand years or so with no side effects, but the extract is probably more concentrated.
I believe I will search for bad side effects. Better to be safe than sorry.

As far as I could discover on the Internet, monkfruit extract has no side effects unless you happen to be allergic to it. Excessive use can lead to digestive problems, same with many things including Vit C.
But you want to stay away from the sugar products which are mostly sugar alcohol known as erythritol. it's associated with increased risk of heart attack and stroke, probably due to blood clotting.

I do eat a bit of sugar, but I reckon I do enough to burn it off. I avoid processed foods, and when I eat them I look at the ingredients, it's sneaky the way they put sugar in, don't know what the US is like , but here I look through a whole aisle of breakfast cereals and find three that don't have added sugar, including lots that make health claims. Even things like wholemeal and wholegrain bread have additives, we use a breadmaker and five ingredients.
Every so often my partner makes a cake, and at the moment we still have Christmas pudding and I do like a biscuit, but I try and avoid anything I don't instantly recognise as food. I'm not fanatical about it, but if something is fresh and good it doesn't need to be made to taste better or last longer.
