Scotch Bonnet flowering but not producing

I wanted to ask for additional advice. I have been exposing my scotch bonnet plants to more morning sun, bringing the pot under the patio about 10 am before the temps go over 90 degrees, I added some mulch to the pot and I'm giving the plants about 4 cups of water every other day (making sure the soil is dry before adding any water). I am definitely getting a lot more flowers but eventually the all turn brown and fall off. In Houston we have been stuck in a heat dome and the afternoon heat index is over 110 degrees and has been for weeks. I am assuming it's the excessive heat that is causing the flowers to drop unless someone knows differently?

Same thing here @Chapfam just a few miles from you in East Texas. It won't be long now hopefully until we see those temps moderate and the plants set fruit.

Fall is actually the best time of year for me for pepper production...when we can get them through this heat period.

Thank you Meadowlark, I appreciate knowing my neighbor is experiencing the same issue. Also hopeful the weather will break soon but my guess is it will be a few weeks. Btw in your experience is using 4 cups every other day a reasonable watering schedule (as long as the soil is dry before watering)?

Are you saying 4 cups of water per plant per pot? That sounds like a lot to me but if you are careful to make sure the soil is dry before watering should be ok.

Sorry for not being clearer, no I use 4 cups to water the the four pepper plants that are in the pot.

Ok understand and that sounds reasonable to me.

I prefer to go by what the plants indicate they need rather than a set amount and frequency. Some days are cloudy, some high humidity some less.

You could try putting the plants in a light colored ceramic container especially if you are using black plastic containers to grow the plants in. It might help keep the roots cooler.

Leave the ceramic pot where you want them during the day.

If youre not doing that already.

I use 40% shade cloth during the heat of the day. Super easy to cut and fit to your plants and easy to remove, plus its cheap and will last for years.
