Sorry I posted my question before introducing myself. Well, I grow fruit and nuts trees up on Mount Lebanon in the middle east. I have about 200 stone-pine trees which give tasty pine-nuts. I also have chestnuts and hazelnuts. In addition, I have some apples, cherries, plums and the like. The location is at an elevation of 1000 m (3000ft+) so the climate is quite pleasant in summer and slightly cold in winter which suits my trees. Happy to be on this form.

Yes, the elevation makes a difference. Down on the coast, they can plant banana, avocados and other sub-tropicals. Up here, the temperature is normally 5 degrees Celsius lower and the winter is cold enough to give some trees the needed winter chilling : apples, cherries, hazelnuts, and chestnuts.
