I was out repairing the lawn after our freaky wind and the tall shrub althea was blown over snapping the tap root(s) but it looked as though a lot of feeder roots were ok. I decided to stake it back up with ties to rebar, since it is several feet taller than I am. I pruned it hard 1\3, both to lessen any winter wind load but also since the root was damaged. Got any tips? I thought to use some starter fertilizer maybe, we do not get lengthy cold until late January-early Feb. It is still very green with no hint of fall in the leaves but they will go with the temps in time.

Don’t worry about the tap root. Just make sure the fine roots don’t get wiggled any time soon so they can heal and grow. I wouldn’t fertilize until first growth next spring.
Gotcha. Thanks. I know they do not mind a prune but have never had one up for root repair.
