Rhubarb like plant

Plant in Canada Alberta around Edmonton area, Looked like Rhubarb but with green stem and tasted like milk (Don't know why I tasted it) Don't have a picture, I threw it out, might be burdock but not sure

It is rather dangerous to eat plants which you don't recognise, some in fact many are extremely toxic.Could the plant be Gunnera?
