Hi all, I have just moved into my first house and it comes with a fair sized garden which is lovely however it has been left empty for some time and the shrubs have all gone feral! I have several roses which all need cutting back and a beautiful wisteria along the back fence which is starting to pull the fence down which is old and rotten and needs replacing anyway. I know it is early to be cutting roses right back (more of a winter job am I right?) and my googling suggests summer pruning wisteria is more for promoting a second flower. I want to keep these plants but I also want to get the garden tidied up. Will it have long term effects in terms of coming back to flower next year if I start hacking away now? (It is essentially a jungle out there!) Thank you for any advice!
