Silverweed (
Argentina anserina, formerly
Potentilla anserina) is a beautiful low-growing groundcover for damp areas, with yellow flowers and ornately cut leaves with strikingly silver undersides. Argentina is agenus in the Rose family (Rosaceae) that was separated from
Potentilla for both morphological and phylogenetic reasons. There a number of similar species and subspecies, such as
Argentina anserina ssp.
groenlandica (or
A. egedii), and Pacific Silverweed (
Argentina pacifica), which has particularly large and dramatic foliage.
