planting tomato plants in Miller Farms, Tractor Supply, and West Marine shopping bags, i mix my own special blend of potting mix which helps the plants grow very good. These shopping bags seem to hold more then the 5 gallon buckets.

the water seems to drain through the pores except for the west marine bag which feels like plastic, on that one i punched some holes near the bottom. since you brought it up i think i may punch holes in all of them as to much water can cause a problem. i plan on having irrigation plastic tubing going to each bag with a water timer with rain water coming from my 275 gallon storage tank. i lost an entire garden from rain water before so i sure know about to much water.

We do not plant tomatoes in plastic bags because they are delicate. We have a planter box for that. However, we buy big rubber pots where we plant small trees like lemon, star fruit and even cashew. We have no more land to plant on so when we want another tree then we just buy a big rubber pot... that is very expensive.

That is a very good idea, it does not matter on where you live to have your plants in such bags. Even if you live in apartments, you can grow some vegetables in bags. It is easy to water and weed them. You also need to be adding fertiliser.

I have seen people grow enough vegetables for their use in canvas sacks These are ones without space to grow them elsewhere and they appeared to be doing just great. Good idea to add colour to your garden you have there.

This sounds like a really good idea. I might give it a try too, especially since I can't find containers big enough to grow tomatoes.
Thank you for the inspiration:)
