planting redbud seeds

I found a western redbud tree with seed pods still hanging on it. I got some seeds. And I found directions on how to plant... it says to keep cool in fridge. Since the seeds already survived a cold winter, do I need to do this?

I would germinate them now. You can use the damp paper towel in a ziploc baggi trick. Keep them warm.

Or you could even put them in some dirt, too.
