This is a cultivar of Bergenia, in the Saxifrage Family (Saxifragaceae). There are ten species, native to temperate and subtropical Asia.
The more commonly cultivated species include B. crassifolia (syn: B. cordifolia), B. purpurescens, B. stracheyi, B. ciliata, and hybrids of these species. Common names for Bergenia include Bergenia, Elephant-eared Saxifrage, and Pig-squeak.
