Hi

Our pear tree leaves are all being very damaged by something . The underside of the leaves have got several hard lumps yellows brown in colour - these seem to be releasing a chemical which then damages the leaf and the upper surface is covered in brown area.

Does anyone know what this is and how we treat it?

I believe that what you have is pear rust. About all you can do is make sure to collect all of the leaves as they fall and destroy them. Mulching around the base of the tree helps. This is a fungus and treatment will start in the spring by applying either copper spray or Neem oil on a regular basis.
It is possible that this could also be galls but I don't really think so. If it is galls don't worry about it.
