Looks like a cross between a Palm and bamboo! Beautiful coloring though, is live to know what it is and if it will grow in zone 8 or 9

I was in Malaysia for xmas / new year and took this at my sons parents in laws garden at Port Stevens . Magnificent. Their garden is about 5 years old so maybe it's a younger version of your pic.

Possibly, I love the variety that grows here. Of course, they can pretty much grow whatever they want! Bananas and papaya growing wild all over the place! I've seen mango and coconut too. Tropical fruit lovers Paradise! I don't know most of the flowers, but lots of exotics growing wild as well. Went to the highlands last week and all of this was just growing wild in the jungle. Beautiful.
