Hi! I’ve had this plant for about 2 years now, started it from a cutting. The person who gave it to me wasn’t sure what it was and I still am not sure. I also want to know what is sprouting from the middle of the plant (brown/purple stalk) because I can’t tell if it’s going to be a bloom or a long stalk. I would appreciate any help!!!
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum @Mdef . You have done well with your cutting! I love orchids myself, and mine are sending up flowering stems now - which look just like yours :joyful: When you see the flowers it will be easier to identify exactly what they are. In the meantime, keep on doing what you are doing..... good luck. Please will you show us your results when they happen :)

Thank you @Tetters for your help!! I am so happy that they are flowers since I thought it would be another year or two before I got any! This plant had grow a very tall stalk before that didn’t do anything so I cut it off, just wanted to be sure it wasn’t another one of those. Thanks for letting me know you think it’s an orchid cactus, I will for sure keep you updated.

 Don`t go cutting bits off.... leave the stems to do their thing - patience is a virtue.

I did not say your plant was an orchid cactus. I have no idea exactly what it is, and if you re read my post, I suggested that it might help to identify the plant when you do see a flower.

I see, I thought you said your plant is doing what mine is so it is the same plant. I had to cut it because it was outgrowing the space it was in, but I used the cuttings to make the plant more full. I guess I will just have to wait and see if this is really a flower or another 5 foot tall stalk

The first picture shows you what my orchids are like in flower, the second one shows a new flower stem. Third one shows a new flower stem (pinky purple) with the green roots appearing on the compost behind. The last picture is a rather tall stem which will be flowering very soon. I hope that you will find this useful.
