Went to Cambridge to the funeral of an old friend, it's a 2 1/2 hour drive so I went yesterday and came back today and didn't bother about step counting. His missus had a photo of us all when I was witness at their wedding 57 years ago.

Back at it again I see :) My body is protesting so much driving still, had a very lazy day and didn't even pick up a step counting device. I went down to my 'Story Shack' to check the heater was still going to keep the books dry, bit feeble , I'll have to adjust the wick and refill tomorrow. Otherwise I didn't leave the house, so next to nothing.

Some days I remember the watch, some days I don't.
Me too, I haven't been doing many steps lately, partly it is that we are stuck in a weather system at the moment that means it is raining on and off every day, so most of my steps are purely in the garden. Cutting wood for the stove, I try and do it down the end of the garden not to disturb the old lady next door, and I find carrying too much hurts my shoulder, so I do it a bucket at a time and carry each down and pick up an empty bucket, that's about 120 steps In each direction which gives me a basic start, plus swinging a felling axe to chop logs is pretty good exercise in itself. I think I have averaged around four or five thousand lately, love to get a bit of sun and go for a proper walk again.

Nothing but gardening and yard work today...that stuff is a breeze compared to ranch work, especially fencing. Learning every day from the "steps" watch.

Walked in the crusty frozen snow today to the bird feeder about 49 paces out, each step a focused to break through the 2 inches of hard top to get to the soft snow of 3 inches making big holes along the way. It is a dry cold snow, so shoes do not get wet at all. Stumping along carefully to the squirrel proof bird feeder, one bag filled with some spillage near to entice. Vowing next winter will hang the feeder on the railing of the deck, easier to get to. On the way back following same indentions, which seems harder as the big broken triangles of snow want to slip off the sides onto the feet. Now to get the other direction with my suet cakes. But rest first. I am so glad my neighbor is feeding the birds. Filled all the feeders before we left on our trip, empty when we got home. Think my leg muscles did a good workout.

Started a repair project on a pond fishing pier today...but also put out some Cauliflower and Brussels plants to replace the ones the freeze killed.
