but of course if you are working in a garden you can exercise your butt off digging over a large flower bed, and only walk twenty steps to the shed to fetch the spade.
That is a very good mention, Oliver!

Sometimes when I shovel snow or dig in the yard, I'll set the tracker to a General Workout setting. It counts "reps" for what that's worth, but I like to view how much time I spent in each heart rate zone.

Why?
Beats me, but it's fun to see how lazy or energetic I was at the task. The device adds time in certain heart rate zones to the Weekly Intensity Minutes tally. I set up a Goal Reached Alert for 200 minutes in the "Moderate" intensity zone or 90 minutes in "Vigorous" and set Moderate to be 75% of my maximum heart rate and vigorous to be 85%. (It adjusts as my age changes.) One has to be in that zone for 10 minutes for the time to be counted.

All not Mission Critical stuff, but fun and somewhat motivational!

Not many steps today but to illustrate @PGB1 point...

Today, I dug 5 5"x 5" x 8' posts 36" deep in clay by hand and set each in 100 pounds of concrete...my tractor digger attachment is not working. I probably took under 5000 steps for the day but wow what a workout!
Wow! You must be one tired worker tonight!

Exactly, and walking is not much exercise for your upper body, I reckon it is good to aim for a reasonable average, but good to do other things as well, this time of year I am splitting logs for the stove with a felling axe, but I walk each bucket full up the garden as I do them, so I mix the exercise a bit.

Wrapped up today with 9,842 steps on the counter — not bad at all! Definitely helps when you’re wearing comfy shoes; I’ve had good experiences with Skechers when picking the right pair for daily walking.

I absolutely love Skechers working in the garden and some other outdoor activities...but need some heavy duty work boots for some things.

Congrats on the steps...and keep it going.

7,800 yesterday walking round train stations and to the hospital, holding the missus' arm on the way back almost blind. Today I am sitting around going nowhere and recovering.

Very busy day today...13,286 steps. Set 24 heavy fence posts with 1/2 ton of concrete...a very great friend dug the holes for me with his skid-steer. We covered several hundred yards of fence line on the "back 35".

:giggle: I guess I am a bit obsessive about completing my ongoing fencing project before I need to turn my attention to the spring garden...but number of steps, not at all. Potato planting is only one month away.

I just find it entertaining to know how many steps I take in a typical day.... if there ever is a typical day here. I suspect I will find it less entertaining as the days progress...and no one joins in to commensurate with. Gets boring being the only one posting steps...but I will give it a few more days... maybe.

Thanks for your interest @Oliver Buckle 🤠

I have been doing very few since I had my eye done, it is very cold and windy out there, which means a whizz up the garden for a sharpening stone or put in a few broad bean seeds and otherwise just pottering about the house. I am averaging about 2500 for the last few days. Still, the eye is improving, and hopefully so will the weather, though the forecast isn't great.
