Someone mentioned tracking the number of steps they take each day. Presumably there are numbers that medical folks would like for us to reach each day. I'm interested in comparing numbers...with anyone and everyone willing to compare.

Seems like it would be fun. Not intended to be competitive or any infringement on personal info. Just fun.

Let's see if anyone else sees some fun in it.

Yesterday my pedometer showed 7241 steps.

I have no idea if that is good or bad, but it is what it is.

Every time I've done a charity bike ride that was not suppose to be a race, it always turned out to be a race.

Bottom line, whenever you get a bunch of guys together, it becomes a race and the women just roll their eyes.

Some guy out there is saying to himself... "I can beat 7241":ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

When I plug in an address in the GPS and it gives me an arrival time I think to myself "I accept that challenge".

Too bad cause I think it could have been fun as well as maybe encouraging us all to be more active.
I think your idea will be fun!
People can also write how they get the steps, why they want a certain amount of steps and motivation techniques.

My Garmin Vivoactive is set to alert me at a somewhat arbitrary 10,000 steps per day. Why 10,000? Some US government health sites cite 10,000 as a goal, so why not use it as a baseline? (And a bit of motivation) It counts stair flights climbed and time in four heart rate zones.

Some days, I far exceed steps and some days, I don't make it. Stairs climbed goal is easy to make daily. (10 flights up)

The device uses arm movement to track steps. When I'm pushing a shopping cart, I use the non-tracker arm. When cutting the lawn, I used to put the tracker on my ankle. I stopped this when a neighbor noticed it and asked if I was on a court ordered tether. Oops! I still put it on my ankle for the treadmill since I tend to hold on to the handles.

Happy Stepping!

Weird. My housemate and I (not even 20 minutes ago) were talking about why he stopped riding "with the bikey guys." There was a group of them, sometimes as many as 30, who would ride together every Wednesday and Sunday. One day my housemate just quit the group.

He told me this morning that he hated how every ride was a "big competition" and he felt like he got a better, happier workout riding by himself. He was definitely one of the fastest riders, too. A real powerhouse on the hills. I used to think he was exaggerating about how "cutthroat" the guys were, but then, one day, a complete stranger was telling me the exact same thing about how he used to bike with other guys and it just wasn't all that fun.

Sure, Paul, sure. We believe it was only your step tracker there on your ankle. Hahahaha.

My one housemate has an app on his phone that tracks his steps. He has a ring that tells him his blood pressure and heart rate and so on. He walks up big hills fast, like he's trying to set a record. He's in terrific shape. Sometimes he and the dog (Border collie/McNab) do 18,000+ steps.
There's such a thing as overdoing it. I think 10,000 steps is a bit much and seems to me that that number has been revised down a bit.

Walking is terrific exercise. Just don't get caught up in trying to set landspeed records, taking it too far and end up injuring yourself.

Thanks @PGB1

My "unit" died after three days. the second day 8100/500 (500 steps in the garden), the third day 8416, and then nothing, no readings...Amazon alerted.

I'm on standby for a while.

Agree.

I was mostly just curious how many steps I take on a typical day...didn't have any idea what is good or bad...but ranching duties keep me walking and curious to know how much.

10,000 seems like it would be a very good day. 🤠

Where I live, it's trendy & makes one cool to ride with- as MiTmite9 put so well- Bikey Guys. They all wear super, duper expensive bike shorts and helmets plus ride insanely expensive bicycles. What I find really weird is that they all seem to be on the phone with somebody. Does the phone have to go everywhere?

Me? I own and ride 6, sometimes 7 or 8, bicycles- newest being from the 80's & oldest from 60's- favorite from 1974.
I have ridden since long, long before these spoiled brat tredn-a-zoids' were born. Yet, over and over a group will take time out of their "impress each other" ride to make fun of my non-bike shorts- or Heaven forbid long pants, my plain helmet and my bicycle- often directing the comments toward me. Sometimes they circle me round and around. So much for a peaceful ride.
Who knows- I might even be able to out-ride them, but that would take the fun out of my happy, peaceful bike rides.

Nope, I've no patience nor tolerance for "The Bikey Guys:".

Check your stride length and some quick math later, you can find how far to walk "X" number of miles or KM.
For Example" 10,000 steps is about 4-3/4 miles for me with my stride.

I think the real goal, health wise, is to move around, get blood pumping and lungs working. Not so much how many steps it took. A bonus is the time can be used for getting peaceful and ditching the stresses of the day. My fancy watch can;t track that!

seven to eight thousand steps is in the range that is supposed to have a positive health impact, five and under is regarded as low, but of course if you are working in a garden you can exercise your butt off digging over a large flower bed, and only walk twenty steps to the shed to fetch the spade. The real health freaks do ten to fourteen thousand, I do that if I go for a long walk in Summer, mostly I average about seven, including the days it rains all day and I do about two around the house, but average around seven in winter.

Not many steps today but to illustrate @PGB1 point...

Today, I dug 5 5"x 5" x 8' posts 36" deep in clay by hand and set each in 100 pounds of concrete...my tractor digger attachment is not working. I probably took under 5000 steps for the day but wow what a workout!
