On things like this I am clueless. What I want to know is, how are you going to keep the dog from digging them up or making a bed on top of them?

You need to have some photos of the area, otherwise it would be hard to get an idea of the layout. Generally the smaller ones would go to the front, otherwise we need a drawing or photos.

Although I would agree with what firelily has said - in that generally the smaller growing shrubs would be planted in front of the taller growing ones and that more photos would be a great help.

It would also help great if you were able to tell as what kind of aspect your yard has and how much sun or shade a particular area has - as from lquickly ooking at your selection of plants I can see some that will require more shade than sun - as well as some that will only like growing in acid soil - which is I hope the type of soil that you have :)
