Hello everyone,
as the title mentions, I am a new guy from Belgium (south Limburg). I bought a house with garden about 4 years ago. Up to now, gardening ment just doing the basic stuff:
- mowing the lawn
- trimming the hedge
- trying to battle my weeds "reactively" (pulling them on the grass, burning on the driveway, etc...)
Because I only did the basic stuff (no fertilizing, no spraying weed killer etc..) my lawn started getting awful to look at and hard to maintain (pulling weeds was useless). So I recently seeded a new lawn, but the result was less then I expected (I'll make a separate thread to discuss).
The reason I joined this forum is to increase my knowledge about gardening so I can better maintain my garden. The long term goal is to have a nice garden with minimal effort. At this moment, my definition of a nice garden is just a nice lawn, a couple of box hedges (buxus), one tree and a nicely trimmed hedge. Very basic, minimal maintenance, maximal enjoyment.
Here is a quick picture of my garden with my smartphone (sorry for the bad quality). The garden is split in two by a fence (and a stone pathway) which you can see in the back. First part is the garden I want to keep nice and clean. Second part (behind the fence is a "play" garden. There is a cage for my son's bunny's, a trampoline, etc... At the moment there are no plans to maintain this part to the same level as the first part.
Any questions, feel free to ask!
