I watch the DIY shows all the time, I look at pictures, and I really want to do this, but I have NO idea what I am doing when it comes to landsacpe design. This is my progress so far since march

This was the yard at day 1 of the rebuild. You can see how wet everything looks. Drainage was an issue for sure. I had to cut down 16 trees in this yard after katrina, so it slowly started sinking

This shows the form I used to extend and raise my existing patio. I busted all of the tile up and sand rebar in the slab 2" and added cross sections and a chain wall before poring the concrete

Gosh it is hard to say. It depends on what you personally like or need in your yard. The pond will add a lot to the area. You can make garden islands in your yard w/ some favorite types of trees, plants, flowers. I make several garden beds here and there in my yard. All I can do is give you a few examples of what I have done. Some are still a work in progress as you can see by the empty spots in the garden:

Looks good so far, I really like the pergola you built!

A rockery around the pond would look nice, and you could also incorporate a waterfall. It would also be nice to listen to when you are sat under the pergola :)

It is looking good. Once you have the "bones" of the garden done...paths, pergola, pond etc you will probably find the soft landscaping will come together quite naturally. Maybe visit some nurseries and see what is available ans what you like.

I think it's important to think of a garden as evolving, rather than finished.

Hi. What a beautiful garden. I bet it keeps you busy in a very satisfying way. What is that lovely plant with the white flowers in the first photo? Is it a climber. I would love it in my garden

Hi Tim. Your pergola is very impressive and I'm sure your garden will be too. I know I love garden beds with curved shapes around the fence lines full of shapes and colors but it's all very individual isn't it. I'll attempt to uplaod some pics just to give you an ideas of what I mean. Good luck. Can't do it. I'm on the computer rather than the ipad [ I can do it on that] and its 5 a.m. here so my hubby is asleep so I'd better not ask at the moment.

He posted this around 2012 and then disappeared. It's a shame though, I was curious to see more updates of the work he had done. And goodness, you are up early!! :)
