Getting too big for sure. I'm thinking that I should take away at least half of its volume.

Please see these pics:

Any ideas/recommendations? Is there an upper limit on the diameter of the branch?
I.e. would it be OK to cut it back to a diameter of 1, 1.5, 2.0 inches, etc.?

Is taking away half the volume too much? I doubt it - I might even be inclined to take away up to 2/3 of the volume given the cut-out that already exists on the ground.

Thanks in advance.

It is recommended to never take more than 1/3 of the volume at one time on a bush/tree when pruning.

You need a very dormant plant to take off a great deal. What week of the year would you guess that time would be?
