i have, what I think are soil mites. I have a banana plant in a pot outside that was planted as a mature corm, cut to a few inches above ground. Shortly after planting we got a LOT of rain. Now the banana is popping new leaves nicely, but the old pstem does have some rot on it. Today I noticed tiny little whitish, spidery looking things (technical terms there) on the soil and areas of rot. They did not appear to be on the new growth, I will look again tomorrow.
Some searching shows me they could be beneficial soil mites. Or...they could be bad spider mites. Sorry, I could not get a good picture. I will try to cut away any rot, but should I spray something to deal with the mites? Leave them be?

From your description, these mites (Acari) do not appear to be damaging your Banana (Musa sp.).
Continue to observe and evaluate the situation but do not apply any pesticide.
