I have 2 grape vines inside my greenhouse that was covered with the mealybug white cotton sticky crap all over the whole plant (i let it get too far I guess). I pruned the vines some for this winter (probably will do more) but I was wondering if there is anything I can do for the soil and winter to help keep the mealybugs away next spring. I know there is some chemicals I could use for systemic to absorb into the roots/vines to help....but that is NOT safe for the later fruits, so I dont want to do that.

Anyone know of an organic way to treat over the winter AND best oragnic method of keeping mealybugs away if they do come back next spring?

Howdy @PaulZone8b. Good to see you here again. 🤠

My go to for mealybugs would be Neem oil...fresh Neem oil.

It's worth noting that excess nitrogen encourages mealybug outbreaks.

Hi ML, I am still working hard at the garden, so I am still here...and know to come here for help from good folks like you!

I assume you are saying wait and see if they come back and when they do, spray the Neem Oil on the first appearance.

Yes, but it wouldn't hurt to do some pre-emptive spraying especially in winter with the Neem. I like to do that every year on my plums and peach trees in winter prior to budding with good results. Good stuff IMO.
