First time having marigolds. Need advice on how to remove the flowers-right under the flower or under the "pod" or at the bottom? I have pinched other flowers and found it easy. I didn't find it easy pinching these-it did't pinch off easily.

I have marigolds and this is my first year of dead-heading them to produce more flowers and less seed!
I am growing English marigolds and all I do is pinch off the flower head when it looks less lively and before it begins to form a seed head. I pinch off at the base of the flower head: nipping off the spent flower.
my advice may be wrong; but, if it is. I know someone will be along to put you straight.

It would be easier on the tougher stemmed flowers to use secateurs - or scissors :)
