I am planning on purchasing a large beautiful philodendron on a moss pole from a local store. The plant has grown very long and I would like to take long cuttings (around 3 feet) to plant in another pot for a new plant. Would cuttings that long survive or should I cut them shorter? Would I need to do any extra fertilising for cuttings that long?

I never took such long cuttings. I can only make a guess. I would take wet moss and wrap the lower air roots on a large plant. Like that.

When the roots grow, then you can cut off the stem from the mother plant.
I would not fertilize young cuttings. Only after they are sufficiently rooted.

Short cuttings can be rooted in the water without problems. :)
