Long life tulips

Recently a gentleman bought a pot of tulips from a store. The tag specified Long life tulips.
Please explain Long life tulips.

It could be that he meant the bulbs are long life. Usually tulip bulbs are thrown away after flowering because they split into smaller bulbs, will get a bigger bulb out of the split bulb that will flower but it will be smaller than the original.

My guess is it is a sales gimmick, 'These ones will last for ages' especially if they came in a pot rather than as loose bulbs. However some hybrid tulips are only good for one year, it could mean it's not them. I wouldn't expect much from container grown tulips in their second year either.
