Hi,

Can someone do me a favour and identify this little black flying insect please? Apologies the image doesn't show them that well - they are tiny but black and winged.

It appeared around the time we placed some sunflowers on our window sill - despite chucking the (dying) sunflowers in the bin, the insect has remained for a couple of days.

I regularly squish them but they keep reappearing on the window!

I have tried cyder vinegar traps too with no joy.

Will they leave of their own accord?

I also have a large monstera by the window but they don't appear to be attracted to it...

Many thanks for your help!

As you say difficult to see, but the description fits the sort of gnat whose larva lives in damp compost, what is the monstera potted up in?
Water it with a mix one part hydrogen peroxide (3% household, not the strong stuff) to four or five parts water, that should kill the larvae.
