Instead of me derailing other threads I thought I should start a thread on salt. From Epsom to tablesalt to roadsalt.

When I read things like this I notice the people always ate high salt diets. But it goes on that highly processed foods are new to the region. But then they blame salt for the "rise" in health problems.

Around the world they are blaming salt for new health issues but most of the world always had high salt diets. Screenshot_20260116_140137_Chrome.jpgScreenshot_20260116_140200_Chrome.jpg
I found this while doing my thing. I have to much time in the winter.

Most of us me included dont always differentiate between propaganda and truths. Propaganda works!
We take it as truth because of the source pretty often. But most organizations pump out propaganda to justify their motives. That includes governments and churches to your friends and local charities.

Salt is good for us in any form. Roads were built to transport salt before there were roads.salt was used to pay for labor. It was worth more than gold.

People didnt need to doctors to yell them to eat salt they always knew.

Our tongue has 4 senses. Sweet sour bitter and salt. Lots of things taste sweet sour and bitter but only one thing tastes salty.

Our body rids excessive salt through urination. Potassium offsets any negative side effects of salt. Why dont Dr's push potassium to combat high blood pressure? Why have they lowered the blood pressure limits to the point people are passing out from low blood pressure?

80% of the food in stores didnt exist 100 years ago.
How many diseases didnt exist then?

Micro plastics are newly discovered. How do we know they didnt always exist? Nobody ever checked before.Screenshot_20260116_144637_Google.jpg
Why cant micro plastics be a part of our natural environment? Oil was around before humans. No money in it?

Like salt there is an agenda we just dont know about.

The science is more about control and money not truth.

The only problem I have with excess salt intake is tooth loss and osteoporosis. Dirty hands didnt you say you had to have all your teeth removed? Do you think maybe it could have been from high sodium intake?

Too much salt can harm teeth by causing calcium loss, weakening enamel, and contributing to dehydration, which reduces protective saliva, leading to decay and potentially tooth loss over time, as saltwater rinses are beneficial, but a diet high in salt is bad for teeth. AI

Excess salt causes the kidneys to excrete more calcium in urine, potentially leading to negative calcium balance, bone loss (osteoporosis), and kidney stones, especially with low calcium intake. While the body tries to compensate by increasing intestinal absorption, high sodium loads often overwhelm this, creating a net loss of calcium that stresses bones, particularly in postmenopausal women. About 4 years my neurologist told me I was salt deficient. I had been all my life now that I know what I know.
I had been in quite a few hospitals feeling like I was dying having strange seizures and my sodium level was always in "their" limits.
When I started taking 2 then 3 salt pills a day for a couple weeks then 4 and 5 after that my teeth stopped hurting for the first time in my life. My gums began to heal but it was too late.
Ive had health problems all my life always in pain. Even my bones hurt. Constant stomach pain. Salt cured or is healing everything wrong with me. Even helping my autism issues and some spiritual issues. Its been quite the journey.

Im finding an ounce of truth in a pound of info in all media and science so im not very trusting in the calcium claims. Your body will pull sodium from your bones which store sodium. I think that's what happened to my teeth. All my bones feel better and are stronger now.
The more salt I get the less water I need. Im not as thirsty and my mouth always feels clean now. Other than the dentures.

What number is too much salt?
All I get are vague numbers and recommendations.
I asked google how many people die of salt poisoning and it just says it rare lol.

There are way too many "one size fits all" theories being pushed... in humans as well as plants. The trick in life is finding what "size" fits you and your situation.

I've always loved salt and always used it liberally. I remember taking salt tablets back in my youth when working in hay fields...the tablets replenished what the body "sweated" out.

Then the collective medical community became "anti-salt" and those tablets disappeared. I'm still around, but many nutritionists who were on the anti-salt bandwagon are not.

Epsom salts are a hugely underrated gardening tool. In my environment, I simply cannot grow tomatoes without adding Epsom salts to prevent BER. Likewise, it does wonders to pepper plant's production here.

We have to find what works for us individually instead of acting like sheep and follow whatever theory is hot at the moment.

One does need to make the distinction between salts and salt.

Salt is an ingredient, sodium chloride. Salts are a metal and (halide? insert correct term here) and there's many. Potassium chloride, calcium chloride , magnesium chloride etc.

Potassium used to be prescribed for blood pressure and Potassium salt was an over the counter seasoning for a long time. Not sure if it's still available.

And, I agree that salt by itself isn't as bad as stuff being put in foods now. Oh, and read the ingredient list on a container of table salt. It's one reason I use mostly canning salt.

We've used gypsum for blossom end rot

There's all kinds of salts, some of which you shouldn't eat

Hi! The article you quote is talking about Kazakstan, specifically, not most of the world. In Kazakhstan, people eat more salt than just about anywhere else. The article talks about it in the context of rising levels of hypertension and cardiovascular disease that contribute to high premature death and disability rates in that country.

Hi Don yes I agree. I understand i mentioned around the world. Thats because of all of the other things I have read. The WHO and the UN are pushing an agenda around the world to get people to eat much less salt even saying many people only need 500 mg of sodium a day. The article I posted was to show the reach they have and how they focus on salt intake even though they mention highly processed foods and Trans fats.

My feeling is they are demonizing salt intake to the point salt deficiency is becoming common and ignored.
