I have a problem with a creeping vine type plant, very invasive deep roots which have an acrid, pungent smell. Any thoughts on what it might be and how to get rid of it?

Dunno, you would think 'vine with simple attenuate lanceolate leaves in opposite pairs' would bring it up, but no.

On the other hand painting the leaves with a glyphosate weed killer does for most things if you keep at it, even things like bindweed where the plant dies but the root survives and comes again succumb eventually.
If you have other things in with it put a bit of wallpaper paste with it to stop it dripping.

Wendy, have a look at Skunk vine. I thought it was one that just grows in America, but that sure looks like it fits the description. If it is, you will need to do whatever you can to destroy it before it takes over.
