I have heard that it is almost impossible to grow orchid from seed because they are so particular with the conditions that they need to grow. I also heard that most people will send the seeds off to a specialist to have their seeds sprouted for them and then the little plants are mailed back to them. The specialists have humidity and temperature controlled glass tubes that they grow them in.

I have never tried any of this myself. Do any of you have any experience with sprouting orchids from seed?

I have heard that orchids have the smallest seeds of any plant. Is this true?

I have found that Orchids on the whole are just impossible to deal with as a hobby gardener. I've had some in my store before (we work in hydro) and I wanted to try and take cuttings off of the plant. With the world of root hormones, heating maps, specialized lights, and time at my disposal I just could not get the thing to root. I imagine the seed will be as fickle.
