Hi all, i'm new here, Pat from the west midlands, i've been lurking for a couple of weeks, absolutely amazed by the advice and knowledge on here.
Anyway, i ordered and subsequently had delivered an assortment of shrubs from J Parkers, the plants arrived perfectly healthy, and in my excitement to open the various plants i threw away the labels attached to these two, one is a weigela "red prince" and the other is nandina domestica "firepower" but which is which? is anyone able to identify them purely from the foliage? it's a big ask i know, but here goes,
Thanks in advance,
Pat.

The plant on the right has the closest match to my own Nandina...so by the process of elimination the other one could be the weigelia.

p.s. Welcome @Brickman0430

Welcome Brickman0430. :)

It doesn't help that they are both in Autumn colour. Can we have a close up of the leaves please?

Your Nandina is the one on the left. Please be advised that Nandina domestica is toxic for dogs. All parts of the plant are poisonous. The plant contains cyanogenic glycosides that produce cyanide when they are broken down in the digestive tract. The leaves and green fruits are strongly cyanogenic, while the ripe fruits are less so.

In my neck of the woods (zone 8) Nandina is evergreen, while Weigela is not, so you should know for sure shortly.
