ID needed please!

This plant appears each year in a grassy verge near our house, flowers in March and then pretty much disappears for the rest of the year. I thought it might be a type of orchid but cannot find it.

Hi Nick:

This is Dog-tooth Violet (Erythronium dens-canis). As you may tell by looking, it is much more closely related to lilies than violets.
