I don't know much about these plants. Why is this aloe not green, and what can I do to help it?

I was told this is a Christmas cactus and it would be happier inside. Any advice?

Aloe needs repotting. Perhaps there is no proper drainage.

What kind of nutrient?

Just some fresh compost will probably do it :)

Be sure to include some grit like it has already.

I'm guessing Grit means something other than angular stones in American then? :D

Would adding bark from some trees be enough grit for the plant?

Bark would hold water rather than help it drain Pat :)

There seems to be a problem here converting English grit into American. :) Is this any help? Grit has larger particles than sand but smaller than gravel.

Has the Aloe been in the sun R.R ?

Because if it has it may NOT need re-potting - as all aloes have a tendency to go brown when exposed to too much sunlight and as fertilizer generally kills aloes - please DO NOT fertilize it if you want it to carry on living.

Oh and the Christmas Cactus will be fine in a semi shady spot outside - providing its not too cold.
