How to prune a weeping cherry

I just purchased this small weeping cherry. It's a "Snowfozam". Is it OK to prune some of the branches that are close to the ground? What are the overall pruning guidelines?

I prune mine just to keep the shape I want... low growing branches get pruned shorter, anything pointing up or in a direction that doesn't work gets pruned out ... it's an ornamental, so pruning is all about keeping it looking the way you want it. ... however the type of cherry tree you have makes a difference,,, this link will help you out... http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/weeping-cherry/pruning-weeping-cherry.htm
