Hello, I have tried twice to grow mint indoor which I brought from the garden and twice I lost this fight... do you have any tips on how to keep mint in good condition for a longer period of time indoor?
I love using mint in drinks or kombucha but I don't want to keep buying new and new plants from market when I don't have access for mint outdoor. My mint in garden hasn't frozen yet so I still have a chance to experiment. Thank you for any help.

Mint needs to have more light than you would get indoors so, get yourself a grow light set up and grow your plants under it. Keep the light on for 12-16 hours and off at night.

Thanks for your response.
I think that was the problem in keeping mint in my house alive, becouse I look after it better than for other plants indoor - good mix of soil (hummus, peat, vermiculite but maybe that was to sophisticated for simple mint from garden hahah) proper watering and also nice humidity becouse I kept it in the kitchen.
I will search for some light set. Do you think that around 6000 lumens would be enough?

Hey! I totally get it – growing mint indoors can be tricky! The key is giving it plenty of light and trimming it regularly to prevent it from getting leggy. Also, avoid overwatering; mint likes humidity but hates soggy roots.

Try placing the pot in a south-facing window – it should help! Good luck!:)

Hi there! It’s great to hear that you love using mint in your drinks and kombucha! Growing mint indoors can be a bit tricky, but with the right care, you can definitely keep it thriving longer. Here are some tips to help you out:

  1. Light: Mint loves bright, indirect sunlight. If you can, place your mint plant near a window that gets a good amount of light, but avoid direct afternoon sun, as this can scorch the leaves. If you don’t have enough natural light, consider using a grow light to give it that extra boost.
  2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Mint prefers slightly damp soil, so check the top inch to see if it needs watering. Make sure your pot has drainage holes to prevent water from sitting at the bottom, which can lead to root rot.
  3. Humidity: Mint enjoys a bit of humidity, so if your indoor air is dry, you might want to mist the leaves occasionally or place a small humidifier nearby.
  4. Temperature: Keep it away from drafty windows or heating vents that can create fluctuations in temperature.
  5. Fertilizing: Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to give your mint a nutrient boost. This can help keep it healthy and encourage new growth.
  6. Pruning: Regularly pinch back the tips of the mint to promote bushier growth and prevent it from becoming leggy. Plus, you can use those cuttings in your drinks!
Since your garden mint is still alive, you can also take some cuttings to try rooting them in water. Just place a few healthy stems in a jar of water and keep it in a sunny spot. Once they develop roots, you can transfer them to soil indoors.

Good luck, and I hope these tips help you keep your mint thriving indoors! Let us know how it goes!
