There's usually enough nutrients in the seed for them to grown just fine to the micro greens stage. My wife has an interesting combined fish tank/micro greens grower than is a supposed to be a complete sort of self contained ecosystem. Seems to work great. The Beta is happy and the greens grow great. It uses small lava rock a the growing medium. You can find several brands on Amazon or look in your local PetCo or similar store.
