I'm trying to make it just one shopping trip a week, which takes no more than an hour.
Two neighbours whose houses I can see from my chair in our front room, were both "shopping" for more than half a day on Sunday (no cars in the drive) and today one of them has already put out their refuse bin which will not be collected until tomorrow afternoon and their car is missing.

You don't have to be Poirot to work that one out.

The Lockdown here is now officially in the realm of the ridiculous. Maybe it didn’t start out like that, but things tend to morph into new things and this is what has now transpired. For example, if a store sells something deemed “essential“ then it’s open for business and most are jammed packed to the gills with people, 80 percent sans any form of a mask. Most people here are bored out of their minds stuck at home away from work, social contacts, restaurants, other such gatherings and are generally dying to get out and do something. That something seems to be initiating home improvement projects and landscaping work judging by the traffic at those centers.

So that shoulder to shoulder activity is going on in grocery stores, home improvement places, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. continuously while various other small businesses like barbers, clothing boutiques, and assorted other retail establishments are now shuttered for weeks. Makes absolutely zero sense these arbitrary shutdowns.

Aside from our massive nearby prison population, the virus seems not to be circulating very freely in my locale in spite of the ubiquitous close contacts going on. Probably our blazing sun and relentless humidity is proving to be a challenge for this Coronavirus, like all the rest of Coronaviruses.

The arbitrary application of the pandemic "rules" has inspired millions of Americans to protest. Gun shops, church, or whatever the officials choose to target have become casualties while many stores are untouched. Abortions are perfectly ok in some locales while other surgery not related to the virus is not. Neighbors spying on neighbors and even incentivized to do so by fascist local officials is becoming common place. All of this has created a growing backlash of resentment based on complete trampling of the American Bill of Rights.

We will get past this pandemic...but the neighbors who spy on neighbors, the arbitrary politicians whose motto is often "never let a crisis go to waste", all will be remembered for their actions and in some ways be held accountable.
