Hi. I have this honey suckle. It is just starting to finish flowering. Early June. And is converting to new growth.

Is it a good time to prune it?

I am assuming it’s classed as early flowering and the flowers seem to come off the lighter brown/red/green growth. The latest growth before converting.

Should I cut back this flowered growth by half to force conversion lower down… forcing growth for next years spring blooms? Also… if it’s was the opposite… a later flowering veriety what would I do and when in this case. To prevent tangle mess vut lots of blooms. Honeysuckles always confuse me as have a very early flowering type too tgat finished ages ago. Pics attached.

I remember if it flowers before June don’t prune. Indicating it’s an earlier flowering type. But some seem to be borderline… they flower around early June but flower into late June and beyond. Where others seem to be mega early.

I think technically we are still in spring, so it would be pruned after flowering. Personally I never worry about it missing flowers because of pruning as if it suits me that’s fine and it may well give the plant a rest
